Ousama Shamma
President
Mr. Shamma has more than 20 years of software development and project management experience. He joined 3rd Millennium as a Practice Manager in 2000, was promoted to Chief Consulting Officer in 2002, and named as president in 2004. As part of 3rd Millennium's management team Mr. Shamma played an instrumental role in the growth and success of the company. His focus and passion has always been on utilizing the best project management principles for a timely delivery of the software to the clients and in applying the best software development practices to ensure a production of the highest quality code that meets the users' needs and expectations.

During his tenure with 3rd Millennium Mr. Shamma led numerous large development projects from initial requirements gathering and design through implementation, user training, and deployment. Among many other projects he was responsible for the development of a Knowledge Management System, Lab Information Management Systems, Annotation and Versioning Systems, Workflow Engines, and a Microarray Data Analysis platform.

Before joining 3rd Millennium, Mr. Shamma acquired extensive experience in project management and database systems development. He held numerous information technology positions as Senior Programmer Analyst, Systems Administrator, Database Systems Manager, and Software Development Manager. Mr. Shamma earned his bachelor degree in computer science from California Polytechnic University, and has received a number of prestigious academic honors and awards.


Roland Carel, Ph.D.
Head of Informatics
Dr. Carel has been with 3rd Millennium since 2000. As head of informatics, he oversees the specification, architecture, and design activities for all custom software applications and database systems developed by 3rd Millennium. He also serves as Principal Investigator for informatics R&D grants. Examples of the projects he has directed include a microarray repository and analysis system, LIMS for high throughput proteomics and gene expression facilities, an enterprise knowledge management system, and a high-throughput sequence processing pipeline.

Prior to joining 3rd Millennium, Dr. Carel was a scientific software designer at NetGenics Inc. where he created functional and technical designs for enterprise bioinformatics frameworks and applications.

Dr. Carel earned a Ph.D. in Materials Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a masters degree in Solid State Physics from Université Paris VI and a bachelors degree in Engineering from Ecole Centrale Paris. As part of his doctoral work, he created scientific simulation software and wrote libraries for data acquisition and processing from laboratory equipment.
